Frequently Asked Questions
If I cancel my policy before travelling, can I get a refund?
If for some reason you change your mind about your insurance purchase, Cover-More policies give you peace of mind by offering a 'cooling off period' of 21 days. During this time, you can obtain a full refund (if you haven't made a claim and your departure date has not passed). If you need to cancel your policy, please phone Flight Centre on 0800 24 35 44.
A policy can be purchased anytime leading up to your departure date, but it’s a good idea to purchase your policy as soon as you’ve booked your trip. Cover-More policies allow you to select the amount of cancellation cover required and cover starts from the time the policy is purchased, doing so means you can make full use of this benefit if you become ill and unfit to travel before you go away. This means you’ll be able to claim for money you may otherwise not have be refunded.
When buying any insurance policy, you should always carefully consider the Policy Wording to see if the cover is right for you. The Policy Wording gives you a full rundown on what you're covered for and – more importantly – what you're not covered for. Some things to look out for in the Policy Wording include:
- Benefit sub-limits
- Policy conditions
- Exclusions
- Excess
With the level and type of cover varying between policies, it’s important to understand every level of travel insurance cover is different. You should carefully consider the Policy Wording before deciding if the policy provides the coverage you need.
Overseas medical and dental expenses
If you get sick or injured overseas, Cover-More includes unlimited~ cover for your overseas treatment costs, including those incurred by overseas doctors, hospitals, ambulances and medications. Many policies have a sub-limit for dental coverage that is far less than what the table of benefits indicates, so make sure your travel insurance policy offers an adequate level of dental cover.
Additional expenses

- A doctor says you’re too sick to continue travelling
- You need to return home because a relative suddenly falls ill
- Your transport is disrupted due to a strike, riot or civil commotion
Amendment or cancellation costs
Cover for trip amendments or cancellation can be selected for an unexpected event, such as:
- You’re sick or injured and can no longer travel
- A relative is sick
- Involuntarily redundancy: if your full-time or permanent part-time job is made redundant unexpectedly
Luggage and travel documents
Cover is included for lost, stolen or damaged personal belongings, including:
- Cameras and video cameras
- Laptop computers
- Tablet computers
- Mobile and smart phones
- Other items

This is available on YourCover and Inbound plans as standard.
Rental vehicle insurance excess
If your rental vehicle is stolen or damaged, cover is provided for the insurance excess you’re required to pay.
This is included on YourCover, Inbound, and Domestic plans.
It’s important to know that some medical conditions are classified as existing medical conditions and may not be covered by our base policy, even if they occurred years ago or you feel in good health now.
If you aren’t sure or answer yes to any of the below, talk to your travel consultant or call on 0800 24 35 44 before you go to ensure you’re protected and can keep travelling.
- Do you take any medications for anything, prescribed or otherwise?
- Have you ever been in a hospital for an illness, injury, treatment or surgical procedure?
- Do you see a medical practitioner or specialist for reviews or check-ups at any time?
It is important to note that some medical conditions will be approved and included, while others may attract an additional premium.
